A Gathering For Change! An Anti-Racism Gathering 2021
We held an anti-racism gathering on the 10th December 2021 at Addison Road Community Organisation in Marrickville. It was an opportunity to bring together community in action against racism, and to provide a welcoming and safe space. A gathering for real change—for the people, by the people—to have the conversations and prepare for action, together!
Peter Elzer’s 2022km Walk to Stamp Out Racism
“My walk has been inspired by a progressive realisation that racism is still present in Rural and Regional Australia, in our homes, at work, at our meeting places, and at BBQS. After witnessing several instances last year, I finally decided to do my bit to help bring this to light and call it out.
A glaring example is the recent racist taunts received by ex NRL player, Greg Ingliss, at a regional CRL match, and his refusal to participate at any further matches at that club.
Also, I am of the strong opinion that, the nature under which many Clubs (eg RSL, Golf Clubs) operate, does not contribute to a 'whole of society' participation, and therefore by way of the services and entertainment provided, many groups from diverse backgrounds are continuously excluded.
I also have a strong wish for First Nations People to achieve their aspirations, going forward.
I am beginning at the Multicultural Hub, Elizabeth Street, Melbourne and walking all the way to Seventeen Seventy, close to Bundaberg.”
Peter has completed his walk wearing his Racism Not Welcome t-shirt.
